I miss sugar and salt

I need bad food…

Hanging around Colchester has been a lot of fun and a lot of history! The romans used to be here and took over this, as well as many other, cities. We’ve done our fair share of shopping, walking and more walking. Fatin’s mom and brother flew in so that’s been a lot of fun as well!

Fatin, her brother Firas and I all went to this pub called Three Wise Monkeys sunday night for their birthday party and live show. I would never have gone to something like this in America, but I am so glad I did! We got to see so much talent, raw high school garage band talent. The first two bands were amazing and then the last two were pretty good but it couldn’t top the openers. Then in the middle of the room over by the bar this group started playing all kinds of instruments, it was soooo cool!! That was probably my favorite part.

We went to this place called Pizza Express yesterday and omg we need to get them to Austin. It was the best pizza I have had so far on this trip! Oh and mom, dad… I’m sorry I just couldn’t stay away from MAC (makeup store)… I tried but was unregretfuly defeated.

Anywho the main point of this post was to say how much I miss Americas food and all the bad things it has in it. Seriously. Not even just food but I’m really having a homesick moment so I decided to make a list of things I took for granted in America.

1. All of the sugar and salt in junk food or snacks. Everything here is just missing something. All the American brand snacks we pick up and try just don’t taste the same and when I finally grabbed a Dr. Pepper can I looked on the label and saw that the culprit was sugar. Our cans of glorious Dr. P have 40g of sugar while theirs has 10-33 depending on size.

2. Pepperoni pizza! This is the only pizza I eat and let me tell you, this pepperoni “chorizo” thing they have going on is so misleading and unjust. Chorizo is not pepperoni people. Nor is your chorizo actually chorizo. Trust me, I’m from Texas.

3. All American fast food places; KFC, subway, Taco Bell… all places I ran in so excited and ended up throwing half of my food away because it was horrible. Yes I know, it has less processed stuff and sodium and blah blah blah but man I miss it all.

4. Driving. Don’t get me wrong public transportation is cool, but not paying £2.20 every time I get on the bus.

5. Ceiling fans. No comments needed

6. PEOPLE WHO ARE FRIENDLY AND WILL LET ME PET THEIR PRECIOUS PUPPIES. I mean come on people, make a girls day!!

7. Family. Most importantly I miss my friends and family. I love being welcomed and loved by others and getting to spend time with other people and their families have made me cherish my own so much more. I am so appreciative for the hospitality I have been given here and can’t wait to see how Christmas is done here but I do dearly miss my family. I miss being able to just hug my mom or my Mimi and dad whenever I want. I miss seeing Kassidy every second of my life and spending the weekends with Trevor and Andy! I miss driving to stephenville to see Bethany and I shockingly miss work at the social house! I miss so much from back home and I never in a million years thought I would… this much.

Being away, even for this short almost month, has made me so so so grateful for the life I have been given. It has made me cherish all the memories I have and the people who by God were placed in my life. It makes me laugh at all the stupid arguments and the time wasted fighting. It has made my heart grow a little. A much needed renovation.

So to Fatin’s family and my own, thank you. Thank you for giving me this experience, because without all of y’all I wouldn’t be here doing what I love and learning so much about myself and my heart. I love each and every one of you.
